We've been bombarded with headlines on how to be chic, how to wear your jewelry, and what type of jewelry is actually trendy, but what the reader really wants to know is: who defines what's chic, and who sets the standard?
While the fashion world has its own rulebook, jewelry has always been willing to break from it. For years, consumers have been sold on how to wear their jewelry, now, many are rebelling against it.
The key players in fashion trends have always been a mix of designers, jewelry connoisseurs, retailers, trend forecasters, trade events, and, most importantly, consumers, but that influence is shifting. Online platforms like TikTok, Pinterest, and Instagram have become where consumers actually shape what's chic sharing their own perspectives and setting their own terms.
A noticeable trend: personal style
We ran a Q&A on our social platform, and almost every answer came back to the same thing: building a personal style.
Erin shared that being chic is "finding your own style and collecting with intention."
@thepatchworkculture shared that "it's about feeling free not to follow any rules." @soft.loot "believes in mixing antique and modern pieces for a chic look."
The same shift happens when high fashion houses introduce something new.
Take De Beers' "Desert Diamonds" campaign the launch of warm, natural stones in champagne and amber tones sparked real curiosity across the industry. It opened consumers' eyes to a different kind of intentional purchase: choosing a natural diamond not for size or whiteness, but for its individuality, at a moment when lab-grown diamonds have made "bigger for less" the easy option. It's a reminder that trends don't just tell us what to buy, sometimes they change why we buy.

When I was designing my latest collection, All Roads Lead to You, I worked with no rules, no limits, and a completely free mind. These pieces are built for one person, whoever finds them chic as hell.
So how do you find that same intentionality in your own jewelry box?
According to many jewelry designers, including us at Rebel, it always starts with your own personal collection: what you have, what you don't, and what's on your Wishlist. We all have a $6,000 Wishlist item and a $100 Wishlist item.
Does mixing the two actually work?
The answer is absolutely yes. The real way to look and feel chic with your jewelry is to define your own style, mix highs and lows, and wear it all with confidence.
There's no right or wrong when it comes to styling, it's the personal touch that instantly elevates a look.
So the next time someone tells you what's chic this season, remember: you already decided that the moment you put on the piece you love. That's the only rule that's ever mattered.
